In a recent development, Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon have taken to social media to address Williams' decision to withdraw from next week's behind-closed-doors test in Barcelona. This move comes as a surprise, especially given the team's struggles with the FIA's mandatory crash tests.
RacingNews365 initially reported on Friday that Williams was set to miss the first pre-season test under the new regulations. The team's official statement confirmed this, citing delays in the FW48 program as the primary reason for their absence.
The statement read: "Atlassian Williams F1 Team has decided not to participate in the shakedown test in Barcelona next week due to delays in the FW48 program. We are committed to pushing for maximum car performance."
Williams plans to conduct alternative tests, including a virtual test track (VTT) program, to prepare for the upcoming season. The team aims to be on track in the following weeks, expressing excitement for the 2026 season ahead.
Sainz and Albon, who will now miss a significant portion of the pre-season running, shared Williams' statement on their Instagram accounts. Sainz's post emphasized their determination, stating, "We are committed to pushing flat out! Can't wait to hit the track soon!"
Albon, in his fifth season with Williams, acknowledged the setback, saying, "It's not how we wanted to start the year, but these things can happen when you are pushing the limits! Full focus ahead!"
