The alarming news has surfaced that a popular diet supplement powder under the Super Greens brand has been linked to salmonella food poisoning, affecting at least 45 individuals across nearly two dozen states. This revelation comes from federal health officials who reported the situation on Wednesday.
Superfoods Inc., the manufacturer behind the Live it Up-brand Super Greens powder, has initiated a recall for several of its products, including both the original and wild berry flavors. These items have expiration dates ranging from August 2026 to January 2028. Consumers are strongly advised against consuming, selling, or serving these products; instead, they should dispose of them or return them to the store where they were purchased.
The illnesses associated with this supplement were documented between August 22 and December 30, 2025, with at least 12 people requiring hospitalization due to their condition. Fortunately, there have been no reported fatalities as per information released by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
These supplements were widely distributed throughout the country, with cases emerging in 21 different states. The affected states include Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Currently, the FDA is conducting an ongoing investigation into the matter, indicating that there may be additional products that could be contaminated.
When it comes to salmonella poisoning, symptoms typically manifest within hours to days after consuming contaminated food. Common symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. While most individuals recover without needing medical intervention within about a week, the infection can pose serious risks for vulnerable populations, such as children younger than five, adults over 65, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
